International Accreditation Forum, Inc. (IAF)
The International Accreditation Forum, Inc. is the world-wide association of all national accreditation
bodies (for example the DAkkS GmbH is representative for Germany). There are two main reasons
for existence of the IAF (International Accreditation Forum, Inc.). At first it should ensure that its
members, the national accreditation bodies, accredit only certifiers that are competent enough to
perform certifications according to respective rules and regulations and as well to ensure that there
are no conflicts of interest between certifiers and certification customers.
The second target of IAF is to warrant that all certificates issued by IAF accredited certifiers are
internationally approved by passing multilateral recognition arrangements between its memes,
which are the national accreditation bodies. The MLA contributes to global free trade, thus
eliminating international trade barriers by technical standards.
A main objective of the IAF is the harmonization of global standards for accreditations and
certifications of management systems so that all of the national accreditation bodies issued
certificates are recognized worldwide, which in recent years has succeeded very well. The motto of
the IAF is: "Once certified - recognized worldwide.".
The international accreditation of IAF is guaranteed by the logo of IAF on our certificates.
According to
Article 4, paragraph 1 of Regulation (EC) No 765/2008, member states must designate
a single national accreditation. According to this new regulation the German Ministry of Economy
launched the
DAkkS GmbH, which no is the only acknowledged German accreditation body, to fulfill
the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 765/2008.
The entry into force of the Law of Accreditation Service (AkkStelleG) on 7 August 2009, the statutory
framework for the establishment of the national accreditation body in Germany was created.
The DAkkS was loaned under AkkStelleG and therefore in Germany to carry out any accreditations in
accordance with Regulation (EC) No 765/2008.
