The new approach of DMSZ: EN ISO 16 001
Resulting benefits for a company by establishing an energy management system according to EN 16001
EN ISO 16001 or ISO 50 001 intend to establish an energy management system in 2011. In order to benefit from energy tax relief, such an energy management system will be mandatory.
The period of 2011 / 2012 can probably be used as a transition phase, although according to the draft law, such a system will be obligatory to earn tax reliefs from 2011. From 2013 on, there will only be tax reliefs for companies which fulfill the requirements of an internal energy management system.
Currently, there are efforts to harmonize EN 16001 with ISO 50 001
The introduction of an energy management system provides companies the opportunity to reduce energy costs and furthermore but with not only the opportunity to reduce energy costs, but also to obtain state funding for energy efficiency advice.
This matters according to the Renewable Energies Act primarily for so-called electricity- intensive companies such as chemical companies, foundries, plastic processing plants and paper manufacturers.
In conjunction with these amendments all the other companies will benefit. A requirement for the reduction or exemption of taxes is the implementation of a certification evaluating energy consumptions and potential to reduce this consumption. With the introduction of an energy management system according to EN 16001 these requirements are met.
Companies that already have established an energy management system are equipping themselves for the future competition. We see this in the matter of fact that compulsory introductions of energy management systems are already discussed by legislators.
Positive effects for the company:
- Cost transparency
- Preparation for further changes on the energy market
- Improved image
- Potential capabilities due to more efficient equipment
- Economy
- Overview of energy consumption
- Implementation of rules / guidelines
- Image building (ecological way of thinking)
- Use of an optimized mix of energy
- Tax advantages and tax reliefs
- Sustainable effective processes
- Reduce of energy costs
- Higher employee awareness on energy efficiency and climate protection
Functions of the energy management
- An effective energy management covers two different areas. Besides the operative part, strategic decisions are in the limelight. Both areas influence each other. Tasks of the operative energy management:
- Managing and collecting of energy data/li>
- Creation of transparency
- Cost controlling
- Monitoring of the current consumption
- Evaluation of appropriate indicators
- Implementation of benchmarkings
- Contract management
- Protection of supply
- Use of appropriate tools (energy management systems)
- Rationalization of energy use
- Reduction of operating costs
- Definition of the company's energy policy
- Introduction of appropriate management processes
- Development of energy indicators
EN 16001: The first international standard according to energy management
The new standard of EN 16001 focuses the energy consumption and the energy policy of your company. You have got the choice: You can establish your own energy management system or integrate it into an existing system - such as ISO 9001 or ISO 14001.
Objectives introducing an EN 16001 and ISO 50 001 energy systems
- Unterstützung beim Aufbau von Systemen und Prozessen zur Verbesserung der Energieeffizienz Support the development of systems and processes to improve energy efficiency
- Development of an energy policy in the company
- Definition of goals and processes
- Catch necessary measures to improve the performance
- Reduction of energy costs as well as reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
