The new approach of DMSZ: EN ISO 16 001

Resulting benefits for a company by establishing an energy management system according to EN 16001

EN ISO 16001 or ISO 50 001 intend to establish an energy management system in 2011. In order to benefit from energy tax relief, such an energy management system will be mandatory.

The period of 2011 / 2012 can probably be used as a transition phase, although according to the draft law, such a system will be obligatory to earn tax reliefs from 2011. From 2013 on, there will only be tax reliefs for companies which fulfill the requirements of an internal energy management system.

Currently, there are efforts to harmonize EN 16001 with ISO 50 001

The introduction of an energy management system provides companies the opportunity to reduce energy costs and furthermore but with not only the opportunity to reduce energy costs, but also to obtain state funding for energy efficiency advice.

This matters according to the Renewable Energies Act primarily for so-called electricity- intensive companies such as chemical companies, foundries, plastic processing plants and paper manufacturers.

In conjunction with these amendments all the other companies will benefit. A requirement for the reduction or exemption of taxes is the implementation of a certification evaluating energy consumptions and potential to reduce this consumption. With the introduction of an energy management system according to EN 16001 these requirements are met.

Companies that already have established an energy management system are equipping themselves for the future competition. We see this in the matter of fact that compulsory introductions of energy management systems are already discussed by legislators.
